Frigidarium Gelato in Rome, Italy

In Rome, Gelaterias are on almost every corner. While there are many good ones, there are also ones that just want tourists’ money and are not focused on the quality of their gelato. In order to make sure you do not miss out on some of the best gelato, you need to check out Frigidarium Gelateria.

There are many aspects of Frigidarium that make it so appealing to tourists and locals alike. Not only is the gelato incredibly delicious, this gelateria also offers to dip your gelato in a decadent chocolate that hardens, creating a sweet shell of chocolate to bite into as you go for your melting gelato underneath. Frigidarium has many different flavors available, as most gelaterias do, and they offer to serve your gelato in giant cones or adorable cups.

As you wait in line for your gelato, as there is almost always a line, you are on a small Italian street, only a few streets away from the busy Corso Vittorio Emanuele II. You can hear cars and buses passing in the distance and see people walking up and down the small allies. If it is summer, or even remotely warm, you will want to get your picture of your gelato as soon as you can and start enjoying the different flavors you chose, as the gelato melts quickly in the heat. Even if the gelato melts a bit too fast, it leaves you with the fond memories of licking your fingers to savor the last drips of gelato that will likely go unrivaled for a long time.

Frigidarium is not only great because of the gelato it offers, but also because of its location. It is located in the Campo de’ Fiori neighborhood, just steps away from Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. Whether you’re a local who prefers to enjoy their gelato sitting in Piazza Navona, or a tourist who is stopping for gelato after touring the Pantheon, Frigidarium is in the perfect spot.

Since the shop is much smaller than most gelaterias, there is very limited seating. There is only a bench or two right outside its small, stall-like structure. However, even if you had not planned on stopping at Piazza Navona, I would definitely recommend eating your gelato there. There are multiple beautiful sites to enjoy in Piazza Navona, from statues and fountains to sunshine and people selling art. Even if you just sat in one spot and did not move for a long time, the view would compliment you gelato so perfectly, you would not mind.
